My inquiry was who am I and how does it feel to be me? I investigated the people, objects and personal struggles that have shaped me and introspectively depicted them in my works. These self portraits explore the many different inuences in my life and my relationship to them.
My sustained investigation shows evidence of practice through the use of colored pencils as a consistent medium throughout three specic pieces. I developed and sharpened my skills of blending, adding values, contrast and shading with color. I also experimented with new mediums such as oil pastel, acrylic and gouache paint, and marker as well as combined mixed mediums in order to achieve certain effects. Over time, I narrowed my focus which called for revision and reworking older pieces. Images number 6-7 where projects from the beginning of my investigation that I completely revised and developed into new concepts that better related to my frame of mind at that point in time. Having a subject matter that remained somewhat consistent (usually me or representations of me) allowed me to explore styles to portray emotions and ideas.
